Budget “focused” mid-life crisis car.
This Focus ST offers a lot of the fun of owning an actual sports car without having to pay extra for things you don’t need, like nice paint, a V8 engine, or classic bodywork. The turbo 4-cylinder engine makes up for what it lacks in torque by building boost just off idle and creating a symphony of amusing sounds. The blow-off valve goes off easier than a teenager after prom, putting everyone on notice that you mean business between shifts as you cruise the Wawa parking lot. The smooth-shifting 6-speed transmission distracts you from the fact that power is getting delivered exclusively to the front wheels. You won’t have to worry about attracting female attention that could wreck your marriage. If the total lack of working air conditioning does not keep strange women out of your car, this heat, combined with an interior that smells like peanut butter sandwiches and broccoli farts, will. The mods list gives you something to talk about at cars and coffee, but nothing about pulling up in a Ford Focus will obligate you to buy jean shorts or New Balance shoes.
All in, this is not a bad little car. It’s only got around 100k on the clock, it’s got some tasteful mods done, and while it has some rust, none of it is catastrophic. The interior needs some work, but it’s all there and not torn up. Put in some time and effort, and this one will definitely be a winner.
